Almond oil, obtained from sweet almonds, is a natural oil commonly used in hair and skin care. Thanks to its vitamin E and omega fatty acids, it can be used in various ways for both hair and skin. Its effects on hair and skin vary depending on how it is used. Below are its known properties and proper application methods.

Strengthening the hair

Almond oil is said to help strengthen hair strands and reduce split and broken ends. Regular use is also said to help protect hair from heat damage during styling. An almond oil hair mask applied once or twice a week is said to visibly soften hair over time. Applying almond oil to the hair before using heat is not recommended, as the combination with heat may damage the hair. Leaving the oil in the hair overnight and rinsing it out in the morning is a more common method. Wrapping the hair in a thin cloth is recommended to keep oil from staining the pillowcase.

Benefits for the scalp

When applied directly to the scalp, its antioxidants are said to support circulation in the area. It is also traditionally used for scalp dryness and flaking. If these skin problems are persistent or severe, consult a dermatologist; almond oil should be considered a supportive application, not a standalone solution.

Moisturizing effect on the skin

Almond oil is said to moisturize the skin and give it a more supple appearance thanks to its vitamin E, and it can be easily added to a daily skin-care routine. Regular application to the eyebrows and eyelashes is also said to support their care. Almond oil is thought to soften the appearance of fine lines under the eyes and should be applied to this area in a very small amount, keeping it out of the eyes. People with an almond or tree nut allergy should not apply almond oil to their skin either. Apply a few drops to clean skin using gentle massage motions. Using a small amount on oily skin may help reduce the risk of clogged pores. On dry skin, using it instead of night cream or mixing it with cream provides more intensive moisture.

Using it as a makeup remover

Almond oil can also be used to remove makeup. Put a few drops in your palm and gently massage it with your fingertips onto the area you want to clean. Then clean the face with lukewarm water and cotton. Washing the face again with a cleansing foam afterward, if desired, helps remove all oil residue. Use a smaller amount and gentle motions around sensitive areas such as the eyes.

Choosing and storing it properly

When buying almond oil, cold-pressed products without additives are recommended. Almond oil sold in a dark glass bottle is less exposed to light and stays fresh longer. It is recommended to store it in a cool, dark place after opening; if left at room temperature for a long time, it may lose its aroma. If using it for the first time, test it on a small patch of skin to make it easier to notice possible sensitivity.
