Before treating a countertop stain, identify the surface material and its manufacturer’s care instructions. A light or dark color alone does not establish whether a cleaner is suitable. Do not use lemon or vinegar on acid-sensitive natural stone such as marble and limestone.
For routine care, use a recommended neutral stone cleaner or a mild detergent allowed by the manufacturer, following its directions; rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. Blot spills without spreading them. Do not assume abrasive powders, baking-soda paste, salt scrubbing, hydrogen peroxide, or dishwasher rinse aid are suitable for every countertop; follow the surface manufacturer’s or a stone-care specialist’s advice for specific stains.
Do not mix cleaning products. Follow label directions for dilution, contact time, and rinsing; do not assume cleaning and disinfection are the same process.
