Propolis consists of resinous materials collected from plants by bees and used in the hive. Products containing propolis may be sold as drops, lozenges, sprays, or preparations for the skin; not every form is suitable for oral use.

Before using a product, check its label for ingredients, route of use, amount, age limits, and storage instructions. There is no universal rule such as a few drops, room-temperature storage, or no need for refrigeration. In the kitchen, follow only the directions for a product labeled for food use. No homemade cream or ointment preparation is recommended here.

Propolis is not a substitute for treatment. Consult your doctor before use if you are allergic to bee products, are considering it for a child, or take medication regularly.
