A hearty American home-style dinner of thick, flat beef patties topped with a rich mushroom and beef-broth gravy. Often served with mashed potatoes or cooked vegetables.
Mix the ground beef with the grated onion, egg, bread crumbs, salt, and black pepper. Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into flat patties.
Pan-fry the patties in a lightly greased skillet for 4–5 minutes per side, then remove them from the pan.
Melt the butter in the same skillet and sauté the onion and mushrooms until softened. Add the all-purpose flour and cook for 1 minute, then stir in the beef broth and soy sauce.
Return the patties to the gravy and simmer over low heat for 5 more minutes. Stir constantly as the gravy thickens so it does not stick to the bottom.
Serve the patties hot with the mushroom gravy.
Important: Let the patties rest after pan-frying before cutting; otherwise, their juices may run out and the meat may dry out. Toast the flour before adding liquid to thicken the gravy, or it may taste raw. Allergens: Contains wheat (flour).
