Bring to a Boil
5 minBring the rice and water to a boil over medium heat.
An easy-to-digest Chinese breakfast, congee is made by simmering rice in plenty of water until it breaks down into a soft porridge. It is a versatile dish that can be topped with green onions, salted egg, or grilled meat.
Bring the rice and water to a boil over medium heat.
Cook over low heat for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice breaks down and the mixture reaches a porridge-like consistency.
Adjust the salt to taste.
Serve hot with green onions and sesame oil.
Store in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Add a little water when reheating to adjust the consistency.
