Cook the fava beans

Ful medames is a hearty breakfast classic in Egypt and neighboring Middle Eastern countries, made by mashing cooked dried fava beans with garlic, tahini, lemon juice, and olive oil. Serve it with bread, topped with chopped tomato and parsley.
Drain the cooked dried fava beans, add them to a pot with a little of the cooking liquid, and warm over low heat for a few minutes.
Roughly mash the fava beans with a fork. Add the garlic, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, cumin, and salt, then stir until smooth.
Spread the mash on a serving plate and drizzle with another round of olive oil.
Sprinkle with the chopped tomato, onion, and parsley. Add Turkish red pepper flakes if desired and serve with warm bread.
Important: Cook the fava beans until very tender; if they remain firm, they will not mash smoothly. Allergen: Contains sesame (tahini). Caution: Add the tahini gradually while stirring to prevent lumps.
