Menchi katsu is a popular Japanese dish made by coating and frying beef patties mixed with onion. The patties are crisp on the outside and juicy inside, and are served both at home and in bento boxes.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Make the mixture

10 min

Mix the ground beef, grated onion, half of a 200 ml measure of breadcrumbs, one egg, milk, salt and black pepper.

2

Shape the patties

10 min

Shape the mixture into flat oval patties.

3

Coat the patties

5 min

Coat each patty in flour, beaten egg and the remaining breadcrumbs, in that order.

4

Fry the patties

15 min

Heat the cooking oil in a pan and fry the patties for 7 minutes per side, until golden.

5

Rest and serve

5 min

Rest the patties on paper towels for 5 minutes to absorb excess oil, then serve.

Reminder

Do not overcrowd the pan when frying the patties, or the oil temperature will drop and the coating may absorb oil. Allergens: contains wheat (gluten), milk and egg.
