A winter-table classic in Russian cuisine, golubtsy are boiled cabbage leaves filled with ground meat, rice, and onion, then slowly cooked in a pot with tomato sauce. Serving them with sour cream is traditional.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Boil the Cabbage Leaves

3 min

Boil the cabbage leaves in salted water for 3 minutes, until softened. Drain and let cool.

2

Prepare the Filling

8 min

In a bowl, thoroughly mix the ground beef with the raw rice, half of the onion, salt, and black pepper.

3

Fill and Roll the Cabbage Leaves

20 min

Place one spoonful of filling in the center of each leaf, fold the edges inward, and roll it up tightly.

4

Cook in the Sauce

80 min

Sauté the remaining onion in neutral oil, then add the tomato paste and water. Arrange the cabbage rolls in the pot, cover, and cook over low heat for 80 minutes.

Reminder

Important: do not boil the cabbage leaves too long, or they may tear when rolled. Gluten is not confirmed; the rice may contain traces of wheat flour. Contains milk (sour cream).
