How Many Calories Are in One Tablespoon of Sunflower Oil?

Sunflower oil contains around 120 calories per tablespoon (about 14 grams). This value comes almost entirely from fat; liquid oils have more than twice as much energy per gram as the other food groups. Sunflower oil has nearly the same calorie range as other liquid vegetable oils such as olive oil and corn oil; the difference is no more than a few calories, while the main difference is in fatty acid composition.

How does frying increase calories? When food is fried, the calories from the oil absorbed by the food are added to those from the oil put in the pan. A slice of potato cooked in hot oil can contain two to three times as many calories as its baked version. The amount absorbed also increases as the oil temperature and cooking time increase, so there can be a significant calorie difference between fried and baked versions of the same dish.

How does it compare with other fats? Butter has a similar number of calories per gram to sunflower oil, but because it contains water and milk solids, the same volume may have slightly fewer calories. Although coconut oil is high in saturated fat, its calorie content is not substantially different from that of other liquid oils. When measuring oil for a salad or sauté, using a level spoon instead of filling it to the brim can noticeably reduce your total daily calorie intake.

The difference between liquid and solid fats Sunflower oil remains liquid at room temperature, while solid fats such as butter and margarine harden in the cold. This physical difference has no direct connection to calories; both provide similar energy per gram, and the difference lies only in fatty acid type and use. When sautéing, it is difficult to estimate by eye how much liquid oil is poured into the pan; pouring in more oil than a recipe calls for can unknowingly raise the meal’s calorie content significantly.

Practical measures for everyday use A 4 ml measure of sunflower oil contains around 40 calories; this is a third of a tablespoon. When you want to add a few drops of oil to a salad, measuring with a 4 ml measure is an easy way to keep calories under control. Spray oil bottles work on a similar principle; oil sprayed in a thin layer amounts to much less than oil poured with a spoon and is usually enough to keep food from sticking to the pan. Labels on sunflower oil bottles usually give calories per 100 milliliters. Converting this value to the spoon measure takes a little calculation. Knowing that one tablespoon is about 15 milliliters makes it easier to calculate the right value for everyday use from the number on the label. The calorie difference between refined and cold-pressed sunflower oil is also negligible; the main differences are aroma, flavor intensity, and smoke point, and it does not change your daily calorie calculation. The main ingredient in packaged prepared sauces and mayonnaise is also usually liquid oil; the reason a spoonful of mayonnaise is so high in calories is largely the amount of oil it contains.

Ayçiçek yağı yerine bir süre hindistan cevizi yağı denedim, tadı daha belirgin oldu ama kalorisi neredeyse aynı çıktı, o yüzden beklediğim büyük farkı göremedim açıkçası.
