The way to keep an air fryer basket and a pressure cooker gasket from picking up odors is to make sure they are completely dry after every use and put away somewhere that gets a little air, not sealed inside a closed cupboard. A basket or gasket put away damp quickly starts carrying the smell of whatever was last cooked in it, permanently. Left damp for long enough, both parts can also develop an invisible layer of mold, not just an odor, so the drying step should never be skipped. Both appliances share the same weak point: hard-to-clean corners. The grate of the basket and the folds of the gasket can quietly trap moisture and odor if they aren't checked regularly. How should the air fryer itself be stored? The outside of an air fryer should be wiped down with a damp cloth after use, and the appliance shouldn't be put away until it has fully cooled; storing it hot inside a closed cupboard traps the moisture still inside it. The cord should be looped loosely around the appliance, since wrapping it tightly can damage the wire inside over time. A pressure cooker's pot body should be dried thoroughly the same way and stored with its lid left slightly ajar. How should an air fryer basket be stored? After washing, the basket should be towel-dried and then left out in the open air for a few hours before being fitted back into the machine; moisture trapped in its corners is the most common cause of lingering smells. Leaving the appliance's own lid slightly ajar rather than fully closed also lets the inside breathe. Using wooden or silicone tongs inside the basket, rather than metal utensils, also helps keep its coated surface intact before it even gets put away. Why should a pressure cooker gasket be stored separately? Leaving the gasket fitted to the pot body reduces its air contact and traps moisture inside once the lid is shut, so a removable gasket should be taken out after use and dried separately, somewhere open. On models where the gasket is permanently attached to the lid, do not pull it out; let the lid dry open instead. Storing it squeezed under pressure in a crowded drawer can warp its shape over time and stop the lid from sealing properly. A warped gasket also matters for safety, since it can stop the cooker from holding pressure properly; one that has lost its flexibility or developed a crack should be replaced with a new one. How can smells be removed from these parts? A smelly basket or gasket can usually be freshened up considerably by soaking it in warm water with a few drops of vinegar, then rinsing thoroughly. Vinegar neutralizes the smell, but if the part is put away before it is fully dry, the odor comes right back. For a stubborn smell, a baking soda and water paste left on briefly and scrubbed off can work even better than vinegar; either way, the final step is the same — rinse thoroughly and dry completely. In short The shared rule for an air fryer basket and a pressure cooker gasket is the same: fully dry right after use, stored somewhere with a little airflow. Keeping the gasket separate from the pot body cuts down considerably on both odor and the risk of it losing its shape. Checking the corners regularly catches any smell before it has a chance to linger. A simple cleaning with vinegar or baking soda is always the first thing to try if the odor returns.
