Vitamin and mineral deficiencies affect hair health; deficiencies in vitamins D, C, and B and in iron can cause noticeable damage to the hair. For this reason, vitamin ampules available over the counter at pharmacies have long been used in homemade hair treatments. This easy-to-prepare mixture is thought to make a positive difference to hair when used regularly. Here is how to prepare and apply it and what to keep in mind.

Ingredients
The treatment is generally made with an ampule containing B-complex vitamins, another vitamin ampule used for skin and hair health, and an ampule containing panthenol. These 3 ampules form the base of the mixture. They are readily available over the counter at pharmacies; use only ampules labeled for use on hair or skin, and do not apply injectable or oral medicine ampules to the hair. You can optionally add an oil; coconut oil is often chosen for its nourishing properties and pleasant scent. Almond oil or olive oil can also be tried.

How to Prepare and Apply It
Open the ampules cleanly and empty their contents into a small container. If you like, add one tablespoon (15 ml) of carrier oil and mix until smooth. Massage the mixture into the hair, from the roots to the ends. Leave it on for at least 30–40 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water and wash with regular shampoo. You can also add a few drops of the mixture to shampoo as an easy alternative for a daily hair-care routine.

How Often Should You Use It, and How Should You Store It?
The mixture is best prepared fresh. After ampules are opened, their contents are exposed to air, so storing them for a long time is not recommended. Prepare a small amount and use it the same day to help preserve its intended effect. Repeating the treatment 1 or 2 times a week for a few months may make a visible difference to the hair. Store unused ampules in their original package in a cool, dark place.

What Should You Keep in Mind?
Before applying the mixture, do a small patch test on your wrist to check for possible skin sensitivity. Avoid contact with the eyes and the area around them, and wash your hands thoroughly after application. If you have recently noticed a significant increase in hair loss or breakage, consult a doctor and consider a blood test; this treatment is not a substitute for addressing an underlying health condition. The effect may vary on dyed or chemically treated hair, so adjust your expectations accordingly.

Which Hair Types Is It Suitable For?
This treatment may make a more noticeable difference on dry, damaged hair. For oily hair, keep the mixture away from the roots and apply it mainly to the ends. For fine hair, use less added oil to avoid a weighed-down feel. Thick, full hair may need a little more mixture for adequate coverage; sectioning the hair during application can help distribute it evenly.
