Boil the eggs
12 minBoil the eggs for 12 minutes, then transfer them to cold water and peel them.
Inspired by Ethiopia’s famous doro wat sauce, this dish simmers hard-boiled eggs in a red sauce seasoned with berbere spice. The rich, deep-red sauce infuses the eggs with flavor.
Boil the eggs for 12 minutes, then transfer them to cold water and peel them.
Sauté the onion in olive oil for 10 minutes, until softened.
Add the garlic, tomato paste, and berbere spice blend. Toast for 2 minutes, then add the water and stir.
Add the peeled eggs to the sauce and simmer over low heat for 40 minutes.
Leave the lid slightly ajar while the sauce simmers; otherwise, it can thicken too much and stick to the bottom of the pan. Contains eggs.
