Mix the dry ingredients

Crunchies are a classic South African snack bake made by mixing oats and desiccated coconut with butter melted with grape molasses, pressing the mixture into a tray and baking it. Pressing it firmly helps it cut into neat slices once cool. Made with simple ingredients, it is an economical lunchbox option.
Combine the oats, sugar, desiccated coconut, flour, baking soda and salt in a bowl.
Melt the butter and grape molasses together in a saucepan over low heat.
Stir the melted mixture thoroughly into the dry ingredients, then press it firmly into a baking pan lined with parchment paper.
Bake in an oven preheated to 170°C / 340°F for 20 minutes, until the top is golden.
Leave the tray on the counter until completely cool, then cut into even slices.
Press the mixture firmly and evenly into the pan using the back of a spoon; if it is not compacted, it may crumble when sliced. Allergen: contains gluten (flour), milk and dairy (butter).
