Grilled bananas are a sweet side dish served alongside large family cookouts in Cuba. Ripe bananas are grilled in their peels over the embers until soft. No sweetener is added; the heat concentrates the bananas’ natural sweetness.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Prepare the Bananas

3 min

Prick the peels of the ripe bananas in several places with a fork.

2

Grill Over Embers

30 min

Place the bananas, still in their peels, over the embers. Turn them occasionally and cook for 30 minutes, until the peels are completely blackened and the flesh is very soft.

3

Serve

5 min

Peel the bananas, sprinkle them with cinnamon, drizzle with lemon juice, and serve hot.

Reminder

Before placing the bananas over the embers, prick their peels in several places with a fork; otherwise, steam can build up inside and cause the peels to burst suddenly.

Muzları çok az delik açarak köze koymuştum, ikisi çevirirken hafifçe patladı ama 30 dakikanın sonunda içleri harika pişmişti; bir dahaki sefere daha fazla delik açacağım.
