This Turkish palace dessert is made by soaking a special yeast-raised bread in syrup and spreading kaymak, Turkish clotted cream, on top. It is best served with plenty of kaymak.
Bring the sugar and water to a boil, then add the lemon juice. Boil for a few more minutes and remove from the heat.
Place the bread dessert in a baking dish and bake in a preheated oven until lightly browned on top.
Slowly pour the warm syrup over the hot bread dessert, spreading it evenly across the surface.
Let the bread dessert absorb all the syrup and puff up. While it rests, spoon any excess syrup back over the top several times.
Slice the dessert, spread plenty of kaymak on top, sprinkle with crushed pistachios, and serve.
Allergens: contains wheat (gluten) and milk (kaymak). Important: After adding the syrup to the bread dessert, spoon it over the top several times. Continue until the dessert has absorbed the syrup and puffed up, or the center may remain dry.
