Inspired by Cairo home cooking, this fava bean and carrot baby puree is made by simmering peeled dried fava beans with carrots, then blending them with olive oil until smooth. Removing each fava bean skin makes the puree smooth and safe for babies.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Prepare the fava beans

15 min

Soak the dried fava beans in hot water for 15 minutes, then peel them.

2

Prepare the carrot

10 min

Peel and dice the carrot.

3

Simmer the vegetables

20 min

Simmer the fava beans and carrot with the water over low heat for 20 minutes, until very tender.

4

Blend until smooth

8 min

Add the olive oil and blend until smooth.

Reminder

Be sure to remove the fava bean skins one by one; pieces of skin could get stuck in a baby’s throat. Thin the puree with cooking water to match your baby’s age.
