This cake batter, enriched with apples and walnuts, is wrapped in aluminum foil and buried directly in the embers of a grill to bake. Since it can be sliced and frozen, it can be made while embers remain after grilling and saved for later.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Make the Batter

20 min

Beat the eggs and granulated sugar until pale. Add the cooking oil and continue mixing. Sift in the flour, baking powder, and cinnamon. Fold in the grated apple and crushed walnuts to finish the batter.

2

Wrap in Foil

10 min

Pour the batter onto two greased layers of aluminum foil. Wrap it tightly and fold the ends to seal.

3

Cook in the Embers

100 min

Bury the foil in the center of the hot grill embers after the flames have died down, then cover it with embers. After 60 minutes, turn it one time and cook for 40 more minutes.

4

Rest and Slice

15 min

Remove the foil from the embers and let cool for 15 minutes. Unwrap and slice. Any leftovers can be wrapped in foil and stored in the freezer.

Reminder

Keep the foil away from direct flames when burying it in the embers; otherwise, the outside may burn while the center stays raw. Cool the slices completely before freezing to reduce ice crystals. Allergen: Contains wheat (gluten), egg, and tree nuts (walnuts).
