Melt the butter

A quick vegetable side made by sautéing sliced button mushrooms in butter with garlic and a little cream. Ready in minutes, it pairs well with bread or grilled meat.
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté over high heat, stirring occasionally, until browned without letting them release their liquid.
Add the garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Season with salt and black pepper. Adding the garlic too early can make it burn and turn bitter.
Stir in the optional cream for a few seconds, sprinkle with parsley, and serve hot.
Wipe the mushrooms with a damp cloth instead of washing them; washed mushrooms absorb water and can turn rubbery as they release liquid in the skillet. Sauté them quickly over high heat to keep them from becoming watery. Contains dairy (butter and cream).
