These classic British oat bars are made by combining rolled oats with melted butter, golden syrup, and brown sugar, pressing the mixture into a pan, and baking it. Their edges are lightly crisp while the center stays soft and chewy, so they hold together when sliced.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Melt the Wet Ingredients

4 min

Melt the butter, golden syrup, and brown sugar in a pot over low heat.

2

Add the Oats

2 min

Add the rolled oats and mix thoroughly.

3

Press into the Pan

4 min

Spread the mixture evenly in a parchment-lined pan, pressing it down firmly.

4

Bake

13 min

Bake in a preheated 170°C / 340°F oven for 13 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden.

5

Cool

8 min

Let the pan cool for at least 8 minutes before cutting the bars; they will crumble if cut while hot.

Reminder

Let the bars cool completely before removing them from the pan; they will crumble if cut while hot. For a crispier texture, extend the baking time by 2–3 minutes. Allergens: contains milk and dairy (butter). Additional allergen check: Check the product label for gluten in the oats; contents vary by product.
