Served alongside borscht at Ukrainian tables, pampushky are soft yeast rolls finished with garlic butter. Brushed on as soon as the rolls come out of the oven, the garlic butter gives the bread its distinctive aroma.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Activate the Yeast

10 min

Mash the fresh yeast with the sugar into the lukewarm milk. Let stand for 10 minutes, until foamy.

2

Knead the Dough

10 min

Add the salt, egg, cooking oil, and yeast mixture to the flour. Knead until elastic.

3

Let the Dough Rise

60 min

Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size.

4

Shape and Proof the Rolls Again

20 min

Divide the dough into equal portions and roll them into balls. Arrange them on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise one more time until puffy.

5

Bake and Brush with Garlic Butter

15 min

Bake in a preheated oven until golden. As soon as they come out of the oven, brush with melted butter mixed with the crushed garlic.

Reminder

You can freeze the shaped rolls while they are raw. After removing them from the freezer, let them rise at room temperature, then bake as directed. Allergen: Contains wheat (gluten), milk and dairy products (butter), and egg.
