Panrkhash is a comforting Armenian home-style dish made by soaking slices of stale bread in warm milk and butter, then melting in plenty of Kashar cheese (a Turkish semi-hard cheese). Its soft texture makes it a snack option for young children.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Soften the bread

10 min

Break the stale bread into small pieces, soak it in warm milk and leave it for 10 minutes to soften.

2

Cook in butter

8 min

Transfer the soaked bread to a saucepan with the melted butter. Add the salt and cook over low heat for 8 minutes, stirring.

3

Melt in the cheese

5 min

Add the grated Kashar cheese and cook over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until all the cheese has melted and the mixture is smooth enough to serve in a bowl.

Reminder

Add the cheese and melt it over low heat. High heat can cause the fat to separate and spoil the texture. Allergens: contains wheat (gluten) and milk (from the milk, butter and cheese).
