These fritters are made by mixing desalted cod with boiled potatoes, egg and parsley, then frying the mixture. They are a familiar part of Portuguese appetizer traditions, with a crisp exterior and soft center, and can be served hot or cold.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Boil and flake the fish

15 min

Boil the desalted cod in water for 15 minutes, then drain, remove any bones and flake it finely.

2

Make the mixture

15 min

Mix the flaked fish with the mashed potato, egg, onion, garlic, parsley, black pepper and flour to form a smooth mixture.

3

Shape the fritters

5 min

Use two spoons to shape the mixture into small oval fritters.

4

Fry

10 min

Fry the fritters in hot cooking oil for 10 minutes, until golden all over. Drain them on paper towels.

Reminder

Remember to desalt the fish; otherwise, the fritters will be too salty. Allergens: contains fish, egg and wheat (gluten).
