Quinoa, one of the oldest grains of the Peruvian Andes, is cooked with apple and pureed into an iron-rich meal for babies. This recipe has no added sweetener and gets its sweetness from fruit alone.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Rinse the quinoa

1 min

Rinse the quinoa in a fine-mesh strainer under running water for at least 1 minute, rubbing the grains until the bitter-tasting saponin coating is gone.

2

Cook the quinoa and apple

10 min

Put the rinsed quinoa and diced apple in a saucepan with the water and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, until the grains are tender and their tails have sprouted.

3

Mash into a puree

2 min

Let the cooked mixture cool slightly, then mash it with a blender or fork to a consistency suited to your baby’s eating skills.

Reminder

If you do not rinse the quinoa thoroughly, the natural saponin coating on the seeds will leave a bitter taste. Do not skip rinsing.
