A satisfying dish of ground beef meatballs cooked in a skillet with mushroom sauce. The mushrooms’ earthy flavor balances the seasoned meat, and the quick preparation makes it a practical weeknight dinner.
Knead the ground beef with the onion, breadcrumbs, salt and black pepper, then roll it into small meatballs.
Brown the meatballs on all sides in a skillet over medium heat, then set them aside.
Sauté the onion in the same pan, then add the mushrooms and cook over high heat until their liquid releases and evaporates. Stir in the flour, then gradually add the hot water to make a smooth sauce.
Return the meatballs to the sauce and simmer over low heat for 5 more minutes. Serve hot.
Important: Cook the mushrooms over high heat until they release their liquid and it evaporates before adding them to the sauce; otherwise, the sauce will be watery. Do not crowd the meatballs in the pan, or they will steam instead of browning. Allergen: contains gluten from the breadcrumbs and sauce flour. Briefly cook the sauce flour in a little oil first to remove its raw taste.
