A classic English chutney made by cooking apples with onion, cider vinegar, brown sugar and mustard seeds until thick. Serve it as a spiced accompaniment to cheese boards and cold meats at parties.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Chop

10 min

Dice the apples and onion.

2

Boil

5 min

Bring the cider vinegar, brown sugar, mustard seeds, ginger, cinnamon and salt to a boil in a saucepan, then add the apples and onion.

3

Cook until thick

25 min

Cook over low heat for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and the apples soften.

4

Fill the jars

5 min

While hot, spoon into sterilized jars and seal the lids tightly. Leave to cool at room temperature.

Reminder

Fill the jars with the chutney while it is hot and seal the lids tightly straight away; otherwise, an air pocket may remain and mold may develop. Allergen: contains mustard (mustard seeds).
