These spicy, savory tea cookies are made by mixing mustard, Kashar cheese, and red pepper flakes into a buttery dough. The sharp mustard flavor is balanced by the richness of the cheese.
Knead the butter, mustard, and Kashar cheese together.
Add the flour, red pepper flakes, and salt. Mix briefly until a dough forms.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 60 minutes so it firms up enough to cut.
Roll out the dough and cut it into shapes of your choice.
Brush the tops with beaten egg and bake in an oven preheated to 180°C / 355°F for 18 minutes, until golden.
Do not cut the dough before chilling it in the refrigerator, or the cookies may lose their shape as they bake. You can freeze the shaped raw dough and bake it when you like. Allergen: contains wheat (gluten), dairy, and egg.
