Stuffed vegetables and leaf rolls
A budget-friendly, easy-to-prepare dish of tart apples hollowed out, filled with ground meat and rice, and baked. The apples’ slight tartness balances the savory filling, making this a practical option for a weeknight dinner.
Mix the ground meat, rice, onion, salt, and black pepper until evenly combined.
Wash the apples, remove the cores, and hollow them out. Fill them with the meat mixture without piercing the bottoms.
Arrange the stuffed apples in a baking dish. Drizzle with melted butter and water, then bake in a preheated oven until the apples are tender.
Important: Do not pierce the bottom of the apples when hollowing them out, or the filling and cooking liquid will leak. Note: Tart apples create a better sweet-savory balance; very sweet apples can make the filling taste too sweet. Allergen note: contains milk and dairy products. Check product labels for other allergens in packaged ingredients.
