Dried figs are softened in a lightly spiced syrup, then filled with chopped walnuts. This traditional Turkish dessert comes together quickly with simple ingredients and is served with a little syrup spooned over the top.
Bring the sugar, water, cloves, and lemon juice to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes, until the syrup thickens slightly.
Add the dried figs to the boiling syrup and simmer gently for 7–8 minutes, until softened. Do not cook them for too long or they may fall apart.
Once the figs have cooled until just warm, make a small slit in each and fill with coarsely chopped walnuts. Spoon a little syrup over them and serve.
Do not simmer the figs in the syrup for too long, or they may fall apart and lose their shape. Contains walnuts, a tree nut allergen.
