For an outdoor table, the priorities are durability and practicality. Unbreakable melamine or enamel plates, heavy glasses that won't blow away in the wind, and a washable tablecloth are the foundation of a peaceful table outdoors. Clipping or weighting down the edges of the tablecloth prevents the wind's first surprise.

Carrying food in lidded containers keeps it fresh and protects it from insects; keeping drinks in a cooler or ice chest is the comfort of a hot day. Preparing wet wipes, trash bags, and extra napkins in advance makes it easier to pack up the outdoor table afterward.

Tips

Small but effective touches

Choose unbreakable plates and glasses (melamine/enamel); don't use glass outdoors.
Secure the tablecloth with clips or weights; wind will lift it first.
Carry food in covered containers so it stays fresh and keeps insects out.
Keep drinks cool in a cooler bag or with ice packs.
Pack wet wipes, trash bags, and spare napkins in your bag beforehand.
