What Accessories Should You Keep Next to an Air Fryer?

The most useful accessory to keep next to an air fryer is a grill divider that fits the basket; this thin metal rack stops different foods mixing together while cooking at the same time and effectively doubles the basket's capacity.

Why are paper and mould accessories needed?

Heat-resistant, perforated parchment made for air fryers stops the basket floor getting dirty when cooking marinated or sauced food, and makes cleanup easier. Ordinary parchment paper risks being sucked up toward the heating element by the air fryer's strong airflow; using perforated paper made specifically for air fryers removes that risk. Silicone cake moulds for baking eggs, cakes or casseroles in an air fryer should be chosen at around 15-18 cm across to fit the basket shape.

Why are a thermometer and timer useful?

When cooking thick cuts of meat, a digital meat thermometer checks the internal temperature of chicken breast or steak to prevent overcooking; the air fryer's own timer gives you a duration, but only a thermometer shows the meat's actual doneness. A separate kitchen timer also helps when cooking several dishes back to back, so the times do not get mixed up.

What cleaning accessories help?

A soft-bristled brush for cleaning fat and crumbs stuck in the basket's corners works as well as a sponge without scratching the non-stick coating. Wiping off excess grease with paper towel before putting the basket in the dishwasher keeps the dishwasher's filter from clogging and helps the coating last longer.

What accessories should be avoided?

Sharp-edged tools like metal spatulas and forks should not be kept near the air fryer, since they can scratch the basket's inner coating — silicone or wooden-handled tools are the better choice. Aluminium foil should also not be used without the manufacturer's guidance, since it can block airflow, spoil the cooking result, and in some models touch the heating element, creating a fire risk.

Is a silicone basket liner necessary?

Some users choose a silicone air fryer liner to protect the basket floor; it keeps the coating scratch-free and is easier to wash than paper. Non-perforated liners, though, can partly block airflow and lengthen cooking time, so a liner made specifically with holes for air fryers is the better pick. Even with a liner, check the maximum temperature in the manufacturer's instructions — some silicone liners can deform above 200°C.

If buying a third-party accessory beyond what came with the basket, matching it to the basket's brand and model size matters for keeping the airflow distributed evenly.

A heat-resistant silicone mat placed under the unit itself is another practical accessory for protecting the counter from heat; on wooden counters especially, setting the hot basket directly down is not recommended.

Keeping a spare basket gasket on hand is also worth doing in the long run; the seal can harden and lose its flexibility over time, and once that happens the lid may not close fully, stretching out the cooking time.
