This papinha, a common first meat food for babies in Brazil, is made by blending steamed pumpkin and boiled chicken breast until smooth. It contains no salt or sweetener and provides iron and vitamin A for babies just starting solid foods.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Steam the Pumpkin

12 min

Peel the pumpkin, cut it into small cubes, and place it in a steamer basket. Steam over low heat for 12 minutes, until soft enough to mash with a fork.

2

Boil the Chicken

15 min

Boil the chicken breast in water with the lid on for 15 minutes, making sure no pink remains in the center.

3

Blend

5 min

Place the boiled pumpkin and chicken in a bowl, add the olive oil, and blend until smooth. Adjust the consistency with the cooking water as needed.

4

Portion

3 min

Divide the puree among ice cube trays and let cool. Once it reaches room temperature, it can be stored in the refrigerator for 2 days.

Reminder

When offering chicken to a baby for the first time, follow the single-ingredient rule and do not introduce another new food for 3 days. The puree can be stored in freezer trays for 1 month; do not refreeze a thawed portion.
