A classic American pickle, bread and butter pickles are made by boiling thinly sliced cucumbers and onions in a sweet-and-sour brine with sugar, apple cider vinegar and mustard seeds. This easy jarred pickle is handy for lunchboxes and makes a good accompaniment to sandwiches.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Salt the vegetables

20 min

Toss the sliced cucumbers and onion with the salt, then leave them in a colander for 20 minutes to drain off excess liquid.

2

Boil the brine

10 min

Rinse and drain the cucumbers. Bring the apple cider vinegar, granulated sugar, mustard seeds and turmeric to a boil in a saucepan, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

3

Pack into jars

10 min

Add the cucumbers and onion to the boiling brine and boil for a further 5 minutes. Transfer to clean jars and seal.

Reminder

Let the brine cool slightly before sealing the jars, or the glass may crack. Refrigerate the pickles for at least 24 hours before serving. Allergens: contains mustard.

Bir su bardağı şeker bana fazla geldi, sonuç neredeyse reçel kıvamında tatlı oldu; salatalık turşusundan beklediğim ekşilik geri planda kaldı, bir dahaki sefer şekeri üçte bir azaltacağım.
