Cook the mixture

A staple of Brazilian birthday parties, brigadeiro is made by cooking condensed milk and cocoa with butter, then shaping the mixture into small balls. Coated in grated chocolate, these sweets are quick and easy to make.
Combine the condensed milk, cocoa and butter in a saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, for 12–15 minutes, until the thick mixture pulls away from the bottom of the pan.
Transfer the mixture to a plate and leave it to cool at room temperature for 20 minutes.
With greased hands, shape the mixture into small balls.
Coat each ball in grated chocolate.
Place in small paper cups and serve.
Store in a covered container for 3 days at room temperature or for 1 week in the refrigerator.
