Knead the Dough
60 minKnead the flour, yeast, lukewarm milk, sugar, egg, butter, and salt into a soft dough. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
An Austrian baked dessert, buchteln are made by filling yeast dough with jam or plum preserves and baking the buns close together. These soft buns are served warm and can also be accompanied by vanilla sauce.

Divide the dough into pieces and flatten them. Place plum preserves in the center, then gather and pinch the dough closed.
Place the balls close together in a greased baking dish and let them rise for another 20 minutes.
Drizzle with melted butter and bake in an oven preheated to 180°C / 355°F for 22–25 minutes, until golden.
Serve warm.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days; they are best eaten fresh.
