Saute the Garlic and Ginger
5 minHeat the sesame oil in a small saucepan. Add the garlic and ginger and cook for 2 minutes, until fragrant.
A homemade take on classic hoisin, this sauce is made with soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger. Whole-grain rice flour thickens it in place of the traditional thickener. Serve it as a dipping sauce with breakfast or late-night snacks.
Heat the sesame oil in a small saucepan. Add the garlic and ginger and cook for 2 minutes, until fragrant.
Add the soy sauce, honey, and rice vinegar, then stir.
Mix the rice flour with a few spoonfuls of water, then stir it into the sauce. Cook over low heat for 15 minutes, stirring, until thickened.
Remove from the heat and let cool to room temperature. Transfer to a jar and refrigerate.
Do not pour the rice flour directly into the hot sauce or it will clump. First mix it with a few spoonfuls of water to loosen it, then add it. Allergens: Contains soy and sesame (sesame oil). Check the soy sauce label for gluten; ingredients vary by product.
