Inspired by the cumin-seasoned lentil soup tradition along the Nile, this puree is made by boiling red lentils and carrots together, then blending them smooth with a little cumin. It offers babies a naturally sweet first taste without added salt.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Cook the Lentils

20 min

Rinse the red lentils well and place them in a pot with the grated carrot. Add water and boil for 20 minutes, until the lentils break down.

2

Season

2 min

Add the cumin and cook for another 2 minutes, then remove from the heat.

3

Blend Until Smooth

3 min

Add the olive oil and blend. Thin the puree to a consistency appropriate for your baby’s age.

Reminder

When offering lentils to your baby for the first time, serve them on their own and watch for a reaction. Do not add sugar or salt; the natural sweetness of the lentils and carrot is enough.
