Inspired by Cairo’s everyday tradition of eating broad beans, this purée is made by boiling broad beans, removing their skins and blending them with a little cumin until smooth. It is rich in iron and plant protein, and is prepared without salt or sugar.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Boil the broad beans

15 min

Rinse the drained broad beans, then boil them in a small pan with a little water for 15 minutes, until very tender.

2

Remove the skins

10 min

Rub the outer skins off the cooked broad beans with your fingers and discard them. This step helps make the purée smooth for a baby.

3

Blend until smooth

5 min

Blend the peeled broad beans with the olive oil, cumin and lemon juice until smooth. If needed, add a few spoonfuls of the cooking water.

Reminder

Before giving your baby broad beans for the first time, follow a one-food-at-a-time introduction schedule to watch for allergies. Never add salt or honey to food for babies under 1 year old.

Kızım 9 aylık, kaşıkla ilk denemesinde hepsini bitirdi; kıvamı pürüzsüz olmuş, kimyon kokusu da çok hafif kalmış.
