Pastries and dough-based dishes
Haemul kimchi jeon is a popular Korean street food made by mixing well-fermented kimchi with shrimp and squid in a thin batter and cooking it in a pan. Cooked in sesame oil, this spicy pancake makes a heart-friendly late-night snack with little oil and protein from seafood.
Mix the chopped kimchi with the flour, egg, and kimchi juice to make a thin batter.
Stir the shrimp, squid, scallions, and red pepper flakes into the batter. Add the salt.
Heat the sesame oil in a pan and spread the batter in it. Cook over low heat until the underside is browned, then flip and cook the other side.
Do not press down on the batter after pouring it into the pan; pressing too hard can leave the center of the pancake undercooked. Allergens: contains wheat (gluten), eggs, crustacean shellfish (shrimp), mollusks (squid), and sesame.
