This traditional dessert brings out pumpkin's natural sweetness by cooking it slowly with sugar until it releases its own juices and softens. Served with walnuts and kaymak (Turkish clotted cream), it becomes a table favorite.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Macerate the pumpkin with sugar

120 min

Arrange the sliced pumpkin in a wide saucepan and sprinkle the sugar evenly over it. Leave for a few hours to let it release its own juices.

2

Cook over low heat

40 min

Cook over low heat until the pumpkin is tender and the sugar has dissolved into a thick syrup. Shake the saucepan gently from time to time.

3

Cool and serve

10 min

Let the pumpkin dessert cool at room temperature. Top with walnuts and optional kaymak (Turkish clotted cream) and serve.

Reminder

Allergens: contains walnuts; serving with kaymak also adds milk. Important: do not add water when cooking the pumpkin with sugar, as it releases its own juices. Extra water will dilute the syrup and make it thinner.

Malzemeleri sırayla eklemeyi unuttum, kıvamı biraz farklı oldu.
