A winter market drink for children in Germany, Kinderpunsch is made by gently heating fruit juices with cinnamon and cloves. It is known as the nonalcoholic counterpart to adults’ Glühwein and is often served at family gatherings.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Combine the fruit juices

3 min

Combine the orange, sour cherry, and apple juices in a large pot.

2

Heat with the spices

25 min

Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, and orange slices. Heat over low heat for 25 minutes without bringing the mixture to a boil.

3

Sweeten, strain, and serve

5 min

Stir in the honey, strain out the spices, divide among glasses, and serve hot.

Reminder

Do not let the mixture boil, or the spices may develop a bitter taste; gentle steaming over low heat is enough.
