Pastries and dough-based dishes
This hearty vegetarian phyllo pie is layered with a filling of sautéed mushrooms, onion, and Kashar cheese, then baked until golden. The mushrooms give it a rich, distinctive flavor.
Sauté the sliced mushrooms with the finely chopped onion until their liquid evaporates. Season with salt and black pepper. Once cooled, add the grated Kashar cheese.
Whisk the milk, egg, and cooking oil together in a bowl.
Dip the phyllo sheets in the soaking mixture and layer them in the bottom of the pan. Halfway through, spread the mushroom filling evenly over the sheets, then layer the remaining phyllo on top.
Drizzle the remaining soaking mixture over the top. Bake in an oven preheated to 190°C / 375°F until golden.
Important: Cook the mushrooms until their liquid has evaporated; otherwise, the filling may become watery and soften the phyllo layers. Allergens: Contains wheat (gluten), milk/dairy, and eggs.
