Mix the coarsely chopped walnuts with the cinnamon, brown sugar, and softened butter. Pack the filling into the apples.
Arrange the apples in a baking dish and add half of a 200 ml measure of water to the bottom. Bake in an oven preheated to 180°C / 355°F until the apples are tender and the filling has melted. Serve warm.
