Salep is a traditional winter drink thickened with milk and salep powder and topped with cinnamon. With its smooth texture and warm aroma, this classic is a favorite on cold winter days and at tea time.
Put the salep powder and sugar in a saucepan and mix with one 200 ml measure of cold milk to form a smooth mixture. Dissolving the salep in cold milk prevents lumps.
Add the remaining milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and is nearly boiling. It should lightly coat the back of a spoon.
Divide the salep among cups, sprinkle with ground cinnamon, and serve hot.
Important: Salep powder thickens properly when first mixed with cold milk and then heated slowly; adding it directly to hot milk can cause lumps. Contains dairy. Commercial salep mixes may contain starch and flavorings; check the ingredient labels. Allergen: The ingredient list includes dairy. Check packaged product labels for other allergens.
