Make the batter
10 minMix the cornmeal, milk, egg, sugar, melted butter, and baking powder until smooth.
Cornmeal batter is baked, then soaked in cold syrup while still hot, giving this dessert a lightly crisp exterior and a syrup-soaked center. It is a favorite in Gaziantep cooking and is easy to prepare.
Mix the cornmeal, milk, egg, sugar, melted butter, and baking powder until smooth.
Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and bake in a preheated oven until golden on top.
Bring the sugar, water, and lemon juice to a boil. Simmer for a few minutes, then remove from the heat and leave to cool.
Cut the hot dessert into diamond-shaped pieces and drizzle the cold syrup over it a little at a time. Pour it in several stages rather than all at once so it soaks in evenly.
Allergens: contains milk, eggs and wheat flour (gluten). Important: the syrup should be cold and the dessert hot from the oven. If both are at the same temperature, the slices may not absorb enough syrup and the dessert can remain dry.
