This Pakistani street-food favorite combines diced seasonal fruit with lemon juice, black salt and toasted cumin. A rest in the fridge lets the fruit juices mingle with the spices, creating a refreshing salad.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Prepare the fruit

15 min

Dice the apple and banana, wash and halve the grapes, and remove the seeds from the pomegranate. Put everything in a large bowl.

2

Season

5 min

Add the lemon juice, black salt and toasted cumin to the fruit and mix gently. Move the spoon slowly to avoid crushing the fruit.

3

Leave to rest

60 min

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 60 minutes to let the fruit release its juices and mingle with the spices.

4

Serve

5 min

As soon as you take the chaat out of the fridge, scatter over the finely chopped mint and serve.

Reminder

Do not serve the chaat as soon as you have cut the fruit. A 60-minute rest lets the juices come out and the spices settle into balance. Adding the pomegranate seeds last keeps the salad firmer.
