Spris, a popular layered fruit drink from the streets of Addis Ababa, is frozen in ice pop molds to make a dessert. Avocado, mango and papaya are blended separately and poured into the molds one layer at a time; freezing each layer separately creates colorful stripes. Made without cream and sweetened with honey, this fruit-based snack is described as heart-healthy and keeps well in the freezer.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Make the avocado layer

5 min

Blend the avocado with the lemon juice, a spoonful of honey and a little water until smooth. Divide it evenly among the ice pop molds.

2

Freeze the first layer

60 min

Place the molds in the freezer with the sticks centered. Freeze until the avocado layer is firm.

3

Add the mango layer

45 min

Blend the chopped mango with honey and water. Pour it over the firm avocado layer, return the molds to the freezer and freeze until firm.

4

Finish with the papaya layer

180 min

Blend the chopped papaya and pour it over the mango layer. Freeze the molds for at least 3 hours, then remove the pops without thawing them.

Reminder

After pouring each layer, freeze it for at least 45 minutes until firm before adding the next one; otherwise, the layers may run together.
