Inspired by Chinese steaming traditions, this recipe combines cooked rice with finely minced fish fillet, shapes the mixture into small balls, and steams them. The fish is carefully deboned and prepared with less salt, so the balls can also be served to babies 10 months and older. They can be made in batches for a family meal.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Prepare the mixture

10 min

Finely mince the deboned fish fillet with a knife and combine it with the cooked rice in a bowl. Add the green onion and grated ginger, then stir in the cornstarch and reduced-salt soy sauce. Knead until the mixture is sticky.

2

Shape the balls

10 min

Pinch off portions of the mixture about 3 cm across and roll them firmly between your palms to form balls. Make smaller ones for babies and standard-size ones for the family table.

3

Steam

15 min

Arrange the balls in a single layer in a greased steamer, cover, and steam for 15 minutes. They should look glossy and firm when cooked.

4

Optional: crisp the outside

5 min

For older children, brush the balls with a small amount of sesame oil and air-fry at 180°C / 355°F for 5 minutes to crisp the outside. If you do not have an air fryer, bake them in an oven preheated to 200°C / 390°F for 8 minutes.

Reminder

Check the fish fillet twice for bones when buying it; even a tiny bone fragment can be dangerous for babies. When serving babies under 10 months, use half the amount of soy sauce. Allergens: Contains fish, soy, and sesame. Also check the product label for gluten in the soy sauce; ingredients vary by product.

Kızım 11 aylıkken bu topları buğulamada 15 dakika pişirdim, kıvamı kaşıkla ezilecek kadar yumuşaktı, hemen bitirdi.
