These Russian breakfast pastries are made from yeasted dough with centers filled with sweetened curd cheese. When baked, the edges puff up around the filling. They are a classic treat for tea time.
Knead the flour, lukewarm milk, yeast, sugar, egg and butter together. Cover and let the dough rise until doubled in size.
Mix the drained curd cheese with the sugar, egg yolk and vanilla until smooth.
Divide the dough into round portions. Press down the center of each one to make a well, then fill it with the cheese mixture.
Brush the tops with egg yolk and bake in a preheated oven until the edges are golden.
Press the center of each pastry down while shaping it, but keep the edges thick. Otherwise, the filling may spill out in the oven. Allergens: contains wheat (gluten), eggs and milk (dairy).
