Make the batter
8 minWhisk the flour, water, egg and salt into a smooth batter.
Coming from Malaysia's Nyonya cuisine, pie tee is made by frying a thin flour batter into small crisp cups using special moulds, then filling them with a julienned turnip and carrot mixture. Made without milk or butter, this recipe suits anyone looking for a dairy-free snack.
Whisk the flour, water, egg and salt into a smooth batter.
Dip the special pie tee mould into hot oil, then into the batter, and return it to the oil to fry until a crisp shell forms.
Sauté the julienned turnip and carrot with the soy sauce in hot oil for a few minutes.
Fill the crisp cups with the mixture and serve right away.
Always dip the mould in hot oil to heat it before dipping into the batter, or the batter will stick to the mould and won't release. Allergens: contains wheat (gluten), egg, soy.
If you don't have a special pie tee mould, a small tart mould gives a similarly crisp cup, though the shape comes out a bit deeper.
