Prepare the oranges
10 minPeel the oranges and remove the white pith, then cut into thin round slices.
A winter salad unique to Aegean cuisine, with a sweet-tart balance, where fresh orange slices meet black olives, red onion, and olive oil. It's a refreshing accompaniment to rich main dishes.
Peel the oranges and remove the white pith, then cut into thin round slices.
Arrange the orange slices on a plate neatly with olives and thinly sliced red onion.
Sprinkle with olive oil and, if desired, red pepper flakes, and serve cold.
Important: When slicing the oranges, remove as much of the white pith as possible; the pith can leave a bitter taste in the salad. Prepare the salad right before serving, as orange juice pools on the plate if left to sit. Contains no allergens.
If you slice the red onion thinly and soak it in cold water for a few minutes, its sharpness fades and the salad becomes more balanced. You can increase or decrease the amount of red pepper flakes depending on the sweetness of the orange.
